Style:
The more intimate spirit was now becoming more popular. The artist¡¦s filed of view narrows now to a small fragment world complete in itself. The style was moving always in the direction of mildness and intimacy, for the basis of Southern Sung Academy landscape.
In painting of the twelfth and thirteenth century, especially in the court Academy works of that period, a new attitude toward nature becomes apparent, one closer to Occidental romanticism. Those scenes once considered in the West to be most typical of Chinese painting, which poetry scholars seated on mountain ledges gazing at waterfalls or into mysterious voids, are products of this age and the new attitude.
