Wang Meng

Wang Meng (style name Shu-ming; sobriquets Huang-ho-shan-chiao, Hsiang-kuang-chu-shih) was a native of Wu-hsing. Chekiang. He was the maternal grandson of the famous painter Chao Meng-fu (1254-1322) and diligently studied as a youth. Wang Mengs painting style followed that of Chao, but Wang also sought those of various Tang (618-907) and Sung (980-1279) masters, especially Tung Yuan (fI. 937-97 5) and Chu-jan (fI. 960-980). Wang Meng become known as one of the Four Yuan Masters.
